The following list categorizes diseases by type and gives examples of some currently treatable diseases of each type. If you do not see your specific disease listed, please contact CTCI to determine whether we can offer treatments for your disease at CTCI.

Malignant disorders
  • Acute and chronic leukemias (AML, ALL, CML, CLL)
  • Hodgkin's Disease (HD) and non-Hodgkin's lymphomas (NHL)
  • Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS)
  • Multiple myeloma (MM)
  • Some non-hematologic solid tumors sensitive to chemotherapy, radiation, or a combination of both that may qualify for autologous BMT to be followed by control of minimal residual disease
  • Chemotherapy resistant metastatic solid tumors preferably at the stage of minimal residual disease
Non-malignant diseases caused by deficient bone marrow stem cells or their products
  • Severe aplastic anemia
  • Fanconi’s anemia
  • Severe combined immune deficiency (SCID)

Organ transplantation tolerance
  • Induction of tolerance by engraftment of donor stem cells (e.g., pancreatic islets for type 1 diabetes mellitus, perfused organ allografts)
  • Treatment of organ allograft rejection
Genetic disorders caused by abnormal bone marrow products or deficiency of enzymes produced by bone marrow derived cells
  • Beta thalassemia major
  • Sickle cell anemia
  • Gaucher's disease
  • Hurler's disease
  • Metachromatic leukodystrophy
AIDS or heavily immunosuppressed HIV-1 carriers
